Favourite Liverpool Restaurants

If you know me, you’ll know that I LOVE food. My eyes have always been bigger than my belly! So I thought I’d write a post about some of my current favourite places to eat in central Liverpool (my home city).

Leaf – Bold Street

Bold Street is chock-a-block with some amazing eateries but I’m giving a shoutout to Leaf.

Leaf serves delicious food throughout the day but I especially love their breakfast menu – for the cinnamon toast alone! However, if you are going to visit later in the day, then I totally recommend the Greek mezze sharing platter… that’s if you want to share it πŸ˜‚

Leaf also serves every tea imaginable and I love a good cuppa! You can take your pick from many varieties of black tea, scented black tea, green tea, scented green tea, white tea and oolong tea. They even run a Tea Club – how cute!

Mowgli – Bold Street and Water Street

Mowgli is the brainchild of Nisha Katona, who gave up a 20 year career as a barrister to open the restaurant. The first restaurant originated in Liverpool and now further establishments have opened across the country – in Manchester, Birmingham and Oxford to name a few.

Mowgli serves unwaveringly delicious Indian street food and there is also plenty of choice for vegetarians and vegans. My personal favourites are the yoghurt chat bombs, temple dahl and their twist on a chip butty. It’s SO good!

Hanover Street Social – Hanover Street

Hanover Street Social is a warm and cosy feeling restaurant, serving some absolutely delicious dishes. The menu can change regularly, meaning there’s usually something new to try with each visit.

Back when I still ate meat, my favourite dish was the crispy pork belly. This comes with sage and onion sauteed potatoes, green beans, spiced apple compote and a red wine jus.

HSS also run some great deals:

Monday Night Social – this is two courses and either a bottle of wine or two beers for Β£22.50 per person.

Express Lunch Menu – this is available Monday to Friday (12pm-6pm) and Saturday (12pm-4pm). Either two courses for Β£12.95 or three courses for Β£16.95 per person.

George’s Great British Kitchen – Paradise Street

Now, I may have given up meat but I’m still eating fish at the moment. This makes George’s Great British Kitchen ideal for me, as they do so many great fish dishes with a twist. This includes cod pakoras and even a cod dog! There’s also an abundance of haddock, sea bass, hake and salmon.

On top of this, if you like a good drink, GGBK also has a brilliantly stocked gin bar.

Sanskruti – Bixteth Street

This is also another Indian restaurant (my favourite cuisine – sorry, not sorry). The difference with Sanskruti is that the entire menu consists of vegan and vegetarian dishes only.

My recommendations would be the sharing chaat platter – here you get a taster of behl, tortilla chaat, sev puri and dahi puri. Also, you HAVE to order a peshwari naan bread; it’s honestly the best I’ve ever tasted!

So there you have it. Have you ever eaten at any of these places? And do you have any more recommendations for me? I’m always looking to add to my list of restaurants to visit!
