The Little Things In Life That Make Me Happy…

We currently live in such times where social media can (very often) be used as a sort of “bragging” tool.  I see a lot of “look at how great my life is” posts, whereby the greatness of this life and the happiness it can bring is measured more by expensive possessions than anything else.

I’m aware that there can be a nice sense of achievement in working really hard and saving up for something, then finally getting your hands on it.  I’m not knocking this at all, I think we’ve all probably been there at some point!

But I do feel that at times, we can tend to lose sight of other things which can also make us really happy and for the most part, don’t cost a thing.  As cheesy as it sounds, sometimes the best things in life really are free!

In light of this, I’ve compiled a list of things which make me really happy.  Here they are, in no particular order:

Unsetting my alarm

I think it’s safe to say that I’m definitely not a morning person.  I really struggle each weekday morning when my alarm goes off for work.  Even having earlier nights never seems to help, I still always remain half asleep until probably halfway through the working day! Therefore, when the weekend comes and I can switch that bad boy off… that is absolute bliss for me!

How cute my folks are

OK, so people may think I’m biased but I honestly believe my Mum and Dad are #couplegoals and the fact I’ve even used that hashtag demonstrates that I mean it – as usually that hashtag makes me cringe! Sorry guys. But for my folks, I’m willing to make an exception. My Mum and Dad have been together since they were 16 and 19 respectively.  They are now 59 and 62.  To still be together after all that time is one thing. But what makes me so warm and fuzzy is how cute they still are with each other. There isn’t a wedding anniversary or Valentine’s Day that goes by without them getting the other the SOPPIEST card you’ve ever seen. The little things they write to each other just melt my heart and long may it continue ❤❤

Bank Holidays

Sorry to anybody out there who doesn’t benefit from these and you have my respect for keepin’ on truckin’ through them – but those 8 extra days off in the year are a little gift from the Gods! Thank you universe 😊

Memes / meme accounts

Not gonna lie, pretty much every day will consist of me spending some time on Instagram and one of the main reasons for this is simple: MEMES.

They’re just funny, OK? I regularly tag others in memes or find myself tagged in them too and they always, without fail, make me chuckle. Long live the meme!

The smell of onions and garlic cooking

Some people may think this is a bit nasty but my Lord, I absolutely LOVE the smell of onions and garlic frying away in the pan.  If they ever brought it out as some kind of room fragrance I’d probably buy it 😂 It also makes me happy as it usually signifies that a nice tasty meal isn’t too far away!

A good cup of tea

There isn’t much that beats it really is there? Are you even British if you don’t love a good cup of tea? I’ll drink pretty much any tea but Twinings English Breakfast is delightful 😍

Shackles by Mary Mary

What a song! The second I hear this starting up that’s it = an immediate smile across my mush! I just love it and it always, always makes me want to get up and dance. It’s good for the soul, people.

Looking at old photographs

Alright, I know sometimes this can be the biggest cringe-inducing exercise known to man as you question every hairstyle and fashion choice you’ve ever made… BUT… isn’t it also hilarious? A photo can also evoke memories of things you sometimes may have long forgotten about.  I love looking back at old photographs of my gorgeous grandparents, who are no longer here. Sure, it can make me sad sometimes but for the most part, it brings a smile to my face.

Getting my toenails painted

Don’t worry, I shan’t be gracing you all with a photo of my trotters!  I’ll be honest, I think that pretty much every pair of feet aren’t attractive to look at really are they?  However, I’ve always been of the opinion that a painted toenail can make all the difference.  I’ve been living in sandals recently due to the amazing Summer we’ve been having here in the UK.  I’ve had shellac done on my toenails which has been a god-send.

The big mouth snapchat filter

Literally the BEST Snapchat filter there is and I won’t hear any differently!  It makes me cry laughing as it not only looks ridiculous, but it has the added bonus of a chipmunk style voice changer.  Me and my friend regularly film ourselves singing songs using this filter and then send them to each other = instant mood lifters!

Chocolate digestives

Excellent with the aforementioned good cup of tea! Enough said really.

A good boogie

I love a good session of throwing shapes and it usually doesn’t take much to get me up onto a dancefloor.  I’m probably not the best dancer around 😂 but that doesn’t mean I enjoy it any less.

Pyjama days

Because who doesn’t love a lazy day at home where you don’t even bother to get dressed?!

Pissing down rain – when you’re indoors

Kind of self-explanatory, no?

THAT Rylan X Factor performance (special mention for the crying episode too)

I bloody love Rylan! I just love his whole attitude and outlook to life. He knows he isn’t everybody’s cup of tea but he just gets on with it, takes the opportunities as they come, tries to make the best of them and still comes across as a really likeable guy.

This particular performance he did on X Factor is my favourite.  It’s literally the only X Factor performance I’ve ever felt compelled to rewind and watch again. It’s so camp and the staging is crazy but I love it!

Hearing “we’ll see you again in 6 months” at the dentist

I doubt there’s many people out there who enjoy a trip to the dentist.  I really dislike it and have a bit of a phobia I suppose.  I was at the dentist for a check up on Wednesday just gone and heard those magic words.  It was all I’d wanted to hear as I needed a fair bit of treatment after my last check-up.  I’m sure I skipped out of the place!

Peanut butter on toast

An absolute taste sensation 😍

Oh my.  Where to begin? God bless Susan Boyle’s social media team.  A few years ago, in celebration of Su-Bo releasing a new album, her team decided to trend “Susan Album Party”.  Unfortunately, it wasn’t the clearest sentence when put into a hashtag but sure enough, it trended.  For all the wrong reasons:

Su’s Anal Bum Party was born.

And I know it’s highly immature but to this day, it still makes me howl!

Blades of Glory

If you have never seen this film then please add it to your to-do list.  I won’t lie, it’s absolutely bloody ridiculous but that’s what makes it so brilliant!  It stars Will Ferrell and John Heder as solo male figure skaters who hate each other, then find themselves having to team up and compete in pairs figure skating.  Give it a watch, you won’t regret it.

And here endeth my random list.  I hope you’ve enjoyed it.  Do any of the above also bring you joy… surely someone else out there must share my love for Shackles?! 🙈😂 Let me know what little things make you happy, I’d love to hear them!

Have a great Sunday all 😁

  2. I feel like we are very similar because of the majority of this list… Shackles is an AMAZING song! And my god yes give me all the bloody peanut butter toast. My boyfriend and I watched Blades of Glory on a whim one boring day and my god did it brighten it up, what a fabulous film, kept us laughing ALL the way through. I absolutely love Will Ferrell aswell! Also I barely ever get out of my pyjamas and I appreciate it more than anything, haha!
